September 2006 Update

Today, while talking on the phone, Mira pooped (in her diapers). She then proceeded to tell me she pooped; however, I was not done with the conversation and said something to the effect - that's nice dear. As soon as I got off the phone, I saw that she got out the changing pad and bag of wipes from my bag AND opened up the pad with the right side up. As if to say - C'mon, Mom, I've got crap in my pants and I don't like it!

I realized the other day that I probably cannot go back to living in a small town. Or at least not until Mira's in school. I loved growing up in a small college town. I remember playing in the park with my little brother, by ourselves, when I was 6 or 7. Can't say I'd send Mira out to play by herself at that age. Later on, we ride our bikes through campus like we were flying x-wings and tie-fighters. Gone for the whole day during the summer. But one of the things that I love about the city, and would not be available in a small town, are all the resources for young children. I took Mira to complementary gym class one morning and oh my gosh did she just love it! We started off running around in a circle, then we'd stop and kick like a donkey, then more running in a circle, this time backwards, and oh wow! out come the hula hoops! After that, the kids could just play on the equipment. Yes, that's right, real gymnastics equipment. The instructor then taught three skills on different pieces of equipment during this free time. So it was somewhat structured, somewhat directed. Mira had such a good time. Bad news is that the only opening was too close to her nap time, so hopefully, we'll be able to take one with the winter session.

The Bug has been a little parrot this month, trying out words left and right. She hears something she's never said before, and out it comes. So, I have to watch the swearing, because she'll repeat that as well. She's also getting her tenses right, too!

Mike has taken her on several adventures this month and I love it when she has a great time without me. By the end of the weekend, she's a daddy's girl and doesn't want to have anything to do with me. At one point they had a tea party in the middle of the living room (I think). Mike was really getting into it, thanking her for the crumpets. Yes, crumpets.

Oh, one other thing - she has really gotten into building towers this month. At first, when they crashed, she'd get very upset. But after a few minor meltdowns, she's realized that's half the fun and now we get to do it aginagin (again, again!). Both of the pictured towers she built by herself. And now whenever she builds a tower, she wants me to take a picture of it.

Other babybook items - she can count up to eleven, sometimes she skips ten and goes straight to eleven. Two year molars are coming in. She's seperating like a champ in ECFE. That's all I can think of for now.
