July 2006 UpdateMira had her first haircut this month! The back of her hair was rather long and would get so ratty after a nap that I finally succumbed to the old wives' tale that if you cut a baby's hair, it will grow in thicker. I don't know if that's true, but her hair is now soooo cute I can hardly stand it. We went to a place that specializes in kids hair. There was a flashing duckie for her to hold onto, Barney on the video monitor right in front of her, and the stylist was great at telling her what was going to happen. Mira just sat up there like a little angel! I was worried we'd have tears, screaming, fidgeting, squirming, reaching, grabbing, but instead she just sat there and even let the woman cut her bangs AND put in a little pony tail! Then I was worried that we'd have to pry the duckie out of her hands, but she was willing to swap the duck for a sucker. I really think she looks like a big girl now! I'm writing this in the middle of August, so it's hard to remember what she was doing in July. I know she's added a bunch of words. She continues to amaze us with the potty training. If she's without a diaper, she almost always tells us when she needs to go AND she gets there in time! Chris and Megan and their kids came to visit us the last week in July. Sharon, Geoffrey, Guthrie, Georgia, Sidney, and Andrew came up as well. So many people in our house we had to pitch a tent in the back yard. Really. But we had a great time. The girls had an afternoon at the Mall Of America - Megan, Sidney and I went on some Roller Coasters. We all tried on fancy dresses, ate some crepes and chocolate and had fun without the little ones. The next day we all packed up and headed to the beach and that afternoon, we introduced Megan to Ethiopian food. Sharon and her crew had to take off that afternoon and all of a sudden the house was much quieter - not necessarily a good thing. Mira all of a sudden realized she had to share her toys with just two kids, instead of four. I've noticed that Mira does better about sharing when there are a ton of kids around. Wednesday we took the kids to this fantastic outdoor park/climbing structure. Mira climbed up the ropes all by herself (with me close behind) - I'll try to post a link to a picture of the place. Tons of fun was had. Then Thursday, we took the kids to MOA for more roller coaster rides! Mira likes to do this thing when we get her out of the tub. I wrap her Froggy Towel around her and scoop her up like a baby and she coos or pretends to 'cry' like a baby as I carry her into the kitchen to show daddy. We've instituted a very regimented bedtime routine - bath, potty, teeth brushing, potty, diaper and night time shirt, into the rocking chair for some quiet time and books, glass of milk and we are off to bed. She's got it down and will climb up into the chair after I've gotten her dressed. And then she trots off to bed. Most nights she's down by 8:00.
