May 2006 Update

Though the weather in May was more like what we are used to in April, I went ahead and bought Mira a sandbox. She loves to scoop sand into buckets, glasses or any other container. On the other side of the sandbox is a little water table with boats and bridges and gates. We filled up that side and while I yanked up dandelions, she filled up the sandbox side with water. It took about a month for the sand to dry out! We should have taken before and after pictures of the dandelion infestation we had going on in the back yard. I would and did give up several times, but my mom kept at it and then my obsessive compulsive tendencies took over and we yanked em all out, almost. Now it's the middle of June and the lawn looks dead...oh well.

We started grilling out this month and one night Oma brought over corn on the cob. I don't have a picture of this up, but Mira 'helped' Oma husk the corn like such a big girl. At dinner Oma cut some kernels off her cob onto Mira's plate, but when she saw Mike put three or four tablespoons of butter on a piece of bread, then wrap the bread around the corn and twist it, she said I need me some of that! Do you see how wide she's got her mouth open? Mmmmm, butter.

As you can see, life around here revolves around food. Pizza night on Fridays, pancakes for breakfast on Saturdays. Sundays bring eggs and toast. And here Mira's helping Oma make deviled eggs.

And here she's helping Oma cut out the eyes on a pineapple. Oma then sliced them very thinly and then slowly cooked them in the oven. Yummy yummy pineapple.

This month Lewi, our friends Jill and Troy's son, turned one. They had a great party for him and while we ate lots of food, Lewi's older sister Tess dressed Mira for the occasion. Mira LOVES to play with Tess. We had everyone over for Memorial Day and though the rain drove us insides, we had a lot of fun watching Mira chase Tess or Tess chase Mira around the house. At one point, Mira grabbed Tess from behind and wouldn't let go - she just ran behind Tess, holding on for dear life!

And here's a glimpse of her all tuckered out. Wish she would sleep longer during her naps, but oh well. Good thing she's so cute!
