April 2005 Update

April 1st, 2005

I couldn't decide which sitting picture I liked best, so here they all are!

The second picture down is of our friend and neighbor Kate. Mira loves Kate and Bob - Bob was one of the first to get Mira to smile.

The third picture was taken at a bird sanctuary here in town. The hat was a size 6-12 months but didn't last much past 7 months. Oh well, fun while it lasted.

Not much, if anything, had started to bloom at this time. And it was a little chilly, partly cloudy. As we walked through the park, I described what we saw and felt. And I realized that I was expressing my opinions about the weather - it's cold, summer is better because it's warmer; the plants are not as pretty now as they will be once in bloom. I found myself not enjoying the walk. It was just something to get through. Once I realized what I was doing, I slowed down and tried to look at it from Mira's perspective. She had no idea what green plants and trees looked like or what a summer day felt like. And all of a sudden everything looked so much more interesting. I slowed down and really felt the cold breeze, the warmth of the sun, listened to the sound of rustling leaves, and looked at the different colors and textures around me. I tried to describe things without passing judgement on them. Something I should try to do every day.

One of the many things we bought for Mira but never really used was a plastic bath-tub. Instead, either Mike or I would climb into the tub with her and she's always loved bath-time!
