You say it's your birthday!

September 16th, 2005

Well folks, Mira is 10 and a half months old right now, fast approaching her first birthday. I've been thinking about her birthday party and my first pass at a guest list ended up with 24 people on it - and that's just the folks here in town! 24 seems a bit much, even for Mira. We'll probably have a very small gathering of close friends and family and call it good.

Hip Baby!

September 7th, 2005

We took Mira to the orthopedic pediatrician today to check up on her hip dysplasia and we got a clean bill of health! The doctor said her hips are normal and she doesn't need to see her until she's three! She normally sees hip babies again at two, so we are in the clear. Whooppeee!

Home Improvement

So here's the first pass at an updated, revamped website. Like it? You may recognize the photo at the top, it's cropped from one of the Boundary Waters vaction pictures. The links should work, and some of them have been updated. Not sure I like them though.

Slowly, I'm learning html. CSS is confusing, and eventually I'd like to handle the layout with divisions instead of tables, but I still have much to learn. I also want to jazz up the place with fonts, background colors and other neat tricks, but can't land on colors yet. So, email me or mike and let us know what you think, what you like, hate, would suggest.

Oh, and if this site looks like crap, it's probably because you are viewing it in Internet Explorer. Go here to get the better browser.

Today, my friend Rob and I took Mira to the State Fair. We left Mike at home to scrape the garage. Too bad for him, the weather did not cooperate and no scraping was done!

Upon entering the fairgrounds, we quickly scouted out all the good eating establishments and began our culinary journey with bratwursts mit kraut und senf. From there, the roasted corn beckoned us. It was crazy! The folks behind the counter walked in circles around the vats of corn and butter, grabbing an ear of roasted corn, dipping said corn cob in a vat 'o butter, grabbing a ticket from a customer and handing corn off to that customer, then back around the vat again. They must have had a dozen guys behind the counter. Bratwurst and corn, that ought to be enough, right? Oh no. Once done with the corn, we moved on to our daily dairy servings -fried cheese curds and then a vanilla malt. Mira LOVED the malt! Loved it so much she grabbed at some other woman's glass! We checked out the butter sculptures and then bolted before the rain got too bad. All in all, a good, fun day.

My Little Lesson in Chaos

September 1st, 2005

So our fabulously organized, categorized, alphabetized cd collection, some 500 or so, has been re-organized according to Mira. She LOVES to empty things these days - wastebaskets, recycling containers, bookshelves. This last week she discovered the cd collection in the TV room and boy was she a busy little bee - every cd within reach was soon on the floor. Of course, because I have loads of time on my hands, I realphabetized, categorized the cds as I put them back up. Yeah, not so much. So we may not be able to find Miles Davis any time soon, but it sure is fun to watch her work!
